Race Related

HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO PARTICIPATE?

All participants (zombies, runners, and volunteers) need to be 14 years of age or older by race day.

IF I AM ATTENDING WITHOUT A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN, WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign a waiver form. In the event that a parent or guardian cannot attend, please be sure to bring a signed waiver form to the event on race day. Waivers are race- specific, so please visit the Details page of your race location to download a PDF of your waiver.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING ON RACE DAY?

Check out this handy little link.

WHERE CAN I VIEW RACE DAY PHOTOS?

You can view your photos on Capstone Photography's website a few days after the event. www.capstonephoto.com

CAN OUTSIDE FOOD BE BROUGHT INTO THE EVENT?

No. Outside food cannot be brought into the event.

IF I'M A PARTICIPANT, WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE AT THE RACE?

If you are running the race, you should allot yourself AT LEAST 2 hours before your scheduled wave time to park, pick up your registration, pass security, and limber up.

HOW DO I SURVIVE THE HORDES OF ZOMBIES?

If you make it back to the “Safe Zone” and cross the finish line with at least one health flag intact, you will complete the race as a Survivor.

HOW SHOULD I TRAIN FOR THE RACE?

Run. Watch zombie movies. Run some more.

CAN I RACE WITH A TEAM?

We highly recommend racing with a group of trusted allies. This is the Zombie Apocalypse, remember? There are no team-based awards, just the satisfaction of knowing which friends can be trusted during the end of the world and individual “Survivor” or “Infected” medals.

HOW SHOULD MY FLAG BELT BE WORN?

A true survivor earns their ranking as "alive"– do not cheat yourself! One flag should be placed on each of your hips and one on your back. You may not tuck your flags into your clothing, or you will be automatically disqualified. All flags should be visible AT ALL TIMES.

WHAT HAPPENS IF ALL OF MY HEALTH FLAGS HAVE BEEN TAKEN BY THE ZOMBIES?

If you enter the Safe Zone and cross the finish line without any health flags, you will be marked as “Infected.”

if all of your flags have been taken while you are running the course, you still finish the race with your closest allies. You are NOT automatically transformed into a zombie, and you may NOT take another runner's flags, chase other runners, or pick up flags off of the ground.

WHAT WILL I WALK AWAY WITH?

  • Run For Your Lives T-Shirt
  • Racing bib (we know you always wanted one)
  • A medal to signify your survival (or zombie transformation)
  • Admittance to the Apocalypse Party
  • The best last day of your life

All souvenirs from the RFYL race must be picked up in person. We will not be mailing medals, t-shirts, racing bibs, your dignity, etc.

WHAT IF I DON'T SURVIVE? DO I STILL GET A MEDAL?

In the event you become infected on the course, at the finish line you will receive a medal designating your survival, Survivor or Infected. Enjoy! Use it as motivation for the next outbreak.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE IN EACH WAVE?

Each wave will consist of about 500 people. Wave releases will be designed to give the participant the ultimate experience.

CAN I SKIP AN OBSTACLE?

Yes, but be wary of the zombies around you. If you are unable to complete an obstacle due to physical or medical reasons, it is your responsibility to notify an official to safely avoid the obstacle.

CAN I BRING WEAPONS TO PROTECT MYSELF AGAINST THE UNDEAD?

No. Your only weapons will be your abilities to run away, make quick decisions and the strength of your team. Train well.

WHAT IF I GET HURT?

Course officials and medical staff will be present during the entire event. If you get hurt, our highly trained EMT staff will work swiftly to patch you up.

I HAVE TRAINED MY DOG/CAT/BIRD/YOUNG CHILD TO DEFEND ME IN CASE OF A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. CAN THEY RACE WITH ME?

No. Only registered participants meeting the age requirements will be allowed to navigate the course. Please do not bring any pets to the race or to the party; they will be eaten by zombies.

WILL MY RACE BE TIMED?

We will not be timing the race this year. The focus is on outwitting and outrunning the zombies to ensure your survival.

Zombies

WILL THERE BE ACTUAL ZOMBIES?

Maybe...

WILL THE ZOMBIES BE GRABBING, TRIPPING, OR BITING PARTICIPANTS?

Our zombies have specific instructions to only grab the participants' flags. We have trained them well, and most of the Zombies have the biting urge under control.

WILL THE ZOMBIES BE CHASING ME SLOWLY OR QUICKLY? ARE THEY THE WALKING DEAD OR THE RUNNING DEAD?

If we told you every detail, this wouldn't be fun at all. Our best advice: be prepared to run, duck, dive, and dodge.

CAN I DRESS UP IN MY FAVORITE ZOMBIE COSTUME?

Yes. Anyone can dress up in whatever they choose... it's the end of the world. Our team of top-notch make-up artists will turn you into a disgusting zombie; make-up is provided. We encourage zombies to not do their own make-up. We require all zombies to wear their best costume, as we will NOT be providing wardrobe. Don't worry; we will custom shred your costume so you attract the most delicious brains. Check out our “Zombie” page to learn more about all things zombie.

CAN I BE IN A ZOMBIE GROUP WITH MY FRIENDS?

Yes, if you want to be in a group with your friends, make sure you have the same group name and shift time as your teammates on your registration form.

CAN CHASERS AND STUMBLERS BE IN THE SAME GROUP TOGETHER?

Yes. We split zombies up by group name, so make sure you have the same group name and shift time as your teammates on your registration form.

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE TO MY ZOMBIE SHIFT?

You should arrive to the Zombie Transformation Center 2 hours before your shift to allow for enough time for the transformation, orientation, and course placement. Be sure to bring a costume, as we are NOT providing wardrobe.

I HAVE A LATEX ALLERGY. DO YOU USE LATEX IN THE ZOMBIE TRANSFORMATION?

Latex is only used for our prosthetic wounds. If you have a latex allergy, you will not be given a prosthetic wound. But don’t worry; you will still be transformed into a wonderfully disgusting zombie.
